What Adults in School Do to Keep Children Safe
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Our school is committed to providing a safe, supportive environment where all children are protected from harm and feel confident to speak up if something worries them. We work in line with current safeguarding and child protection guidance and expect all adults in school to play an active role in keeping children safe.
All adults working in school
All staff, volunteers, and regular visitors are expected to uphold the highest standards of safeguarding. This means they:
- Receive regular safeguarding and child protection training so their knowledge stays current and they understand their responsibilities.
- Know how to spot signs that a child may be worried or at risk, including changes in behaviour, attendance, appearance, or emotional wellbeing.
- Follow clear safeguarding procedures and policies, including the school’s child protection policy and staff code of conduct.
- Act quickly and appropriately if a concern is raised—no worry is ever considered too small to report.
- Record and share concerns accurately with the appropriate safeguarding staff so that issues can be responded to effectively.
- Help children understand who they can talk to if they feel unsafe, and reinforce the message that they will be listened to and supported.
What happens if a concern is raised?
If a child is worried, or an adult has a concern about a child’s safety or wellbeing, the school will:
- Listen carefully and take the concern seriously
- Pass the information to the safeguarding team immediately
- Follow school procedures to assess risk and decide next steps
- Work with parents/carers where appropriate, while always putting the child’s safety first
- Seek advice or make referrals to external agencies (such as Children’s Services) when needed
Our Safeguarding Team
The school has a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and trained Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DDSLs). They oversee all safeguarding concerns, ensure concerns are recorded and responded to appropriately, and make sure the right support is put in place for children and families.
- Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Mr Williams
- Deputy Safeguarding Leads (DDSL): Mrs Bonner, Mrs Philbey
Talking to us
Children are encouraged to speak to a trusted adult in school if they feel worried, unsafe, or need help. We also remind pupils that they can speak to the safeguarding team at any time.
If you have a safeguarding concern, please contact the school office and ask to speak to the DSL or a Deputy DSL as soon as possible.
